101206 - Old Saybrook Sunset #3

The big yellow sun is nice, but what really completes the picture are the clouds. I rarely shoot a sunset if the sky is crystal clear and there are no clouds. Also, with clear blue skies, there's nothing to diffuse the sun's bright disk and the image contrast goes out the window. Any kind of haze or mist keeps the dynamic range of the image within acceptable limits.

The image was shot with a Pentax 67 and 90-180mm f/5.6 lens with Velvia 100.
