061319 - Lightning Strike
Two minutes after this shot was taken and the equipment stowed, the sky
opened up. It was as if someone had turned a hose onto my windshield. As I
sat in the car waiting for the rain to letup I realized what I just did. Here
I was standing under a utility pole, next to a steel guardrail, holding onto
a metal cable release, with my camera on a metal tripod. Needless to say,
be very careful shooting lightning. If thunder happens less than 30 seconds
from the lightning strike, head indoors.
The image was shot with a Nikon F5 and 17-35mm f/2.8 lens on Velvia 100.
A Lightning Trigger was used to capture the bolt on film.
